New Plymouth Service Delays (State Highway 3 Awakino Gorge)

Awakino Gorge will be closed from 6pm tonight due to a large slip. Delivery delays into New Plymouth are expected tomorrow.
NZTA will reassess the situation first thing in the morning. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Inter-island Service Delays

Due to severe weather conditions, ferry sailings have been cancelled until Wednesday 10th June.
Please expect delays on all inter-island road services.

Taranaki Service Delays (State Highway 3 Awakino Gorge)
Monday 4th May 2026
State Highway 3 connecting Hamilton and New Plymouth (between Mōkau and Piopio) remains closed on weekdays during daylight hours (6:30am - 5:00pm) to allow for ongoing repair.
However, at night a single lane will be open for escorted convoys - it is hoped that this will allow slightly earlier movement of overnight linehaul items for next day courier delivery.
Some disruption is expected to continue as repair works remain ongoing. It is hoped the situation will improve further in the last week of May.
